# How Do I Prime My Shower Filter?
## A quick flush removes loose carbon and prepares your filter for optimal performance.
### Why Priming Matters
Every new shower filter cartridge contains activated carbon media that may have loose particles from manufacturing and shipping. Priming flushes these carbon fines out before your first shower, ensuring clean, clear water from the start.

### Step-by-Step Priming Instructions
#### Before You Begin
- Ensure your shower filter is properly installed per the manufacturer's instructions
- Check that all connections are hand-tight and secure
- Have a towel nearby in case of minor drips
#### Priming Process
- **Turn on the cold water:** Start with cold water only to avoid thermal shock to the new cartridge
- **Run for 2-3 minutes:** Allow water to flow continuously through the filter
- **Switch to warm water:** After the initial cold flush, turn the water to your normal shower temperature
- **Continue for 1-2 additional minutes:** This ensures the filter media is fully saturated and flushed at operating temperature
- **Total priming time:** 3-5 minutes is typically sufficient
