# Milky Water During Initial Use
## Milky or cloudy water during initial use is normal and typically caused by harmless air bubbles that clear on their own.
It is common to notice **milky or cloudy-looking water** when a new filtration system or filter cartridge is first installed. In most cases, this is completely **normal** **and** **temporary**.
The appearance is usually caused by **tiny air bubbles** trapped in the filter media or system housing during installation.

### Why Water May Look Milky at First
Milky or cloudy water during initial use can occur due to:
- Air trapped in new filter media
- Air introduced during installation or cartridge replacement
- Initial flushing or priming of the system
These microbubbles scatter light, giving the water a cloudy or white appearance.
#### How to Confirm It’s Air (Not a Water Quality Issue)
A simple way to check:
- Pour a glass of the cloudy water
- Let it sit for a few minutes
If the cloudiness **rises and clears from the bottom up**, it is air and not a contaminant.

### How Long Does It Last?
In most cases:
- Cloudiness clears within a few minutes to a few hours
- Normal water clarity returns after regular use
- Some systems may take a day or two of normal operation
