What's the Startup Checklist for My RO System?
Follow these simple steps to get your Crystal Quest reverse osmosis system up and running safely and efficiently.
Before You Begin
Congratulations on your new RO system! Taking a few minutes to follow this checklist ensures proper operation and helps you avoid common startup issues. Have a towel handy and clear the area under your sink.
Step 1: Verify Tank Valve Position
Your storage tank has a valve on top that controls water flow.
- Locate the tank valve on top of the blue storage tank
- Turn the valve to the OFF position (perpendicular to the tank line) during initial startup
- Confirm the valve moves freely without resistance
Why This Matters
Starting with the tank valve closed allows the system to pressurize properly and lets you check for leaks before filling the tank.
Step 2: Connect and Open Feed Water Supply
Now you'll introduce water to the system.
- Verify all tubing connections are secure at the feed water adapter
- Slowly open the feed water valve (usually under the sink cold water line)
- Listen for water entering the system - a gentle hissing is normal
- Allow the system to pressurize for 2-3 minutes
Step 3: Perform a Thorough Leak Check
This is the most important step in your startup process.
- Inspect every connection point including filter housings, tubing fittings, and the faucet base
- Check the drain saddle connection on your drainpipe
- Look under and around the storage tank for any moisture
- Wipe connections with a dry paper towel to detect small drips
- Tighten any fittings that show moisture - hand-tight plus a quarter turn is usually sufficient
If You Find a Leak
Turn off the feed water supply immediately. Reseat the tubing by pushing it firmly into the fitting, or replace the fitting if necessary. Contact our support team if leaks persist.
Step 4: Open the Tank Valve and Fill
Once you've confirmed no leaks, it's time to fill your tank.
- Turn the tank valve to the ON position (aligned with the tank line)
- Allow up to 2-4 hours for the tank to fill completely - timing varies by water pressure
- The system will automatically stop when the tank reaches capacity
Step 5: Drain the First Tank
Your first tank of water is used to flush the system and should not be consumed.
- Open your RO faucet and let the entire tank drain
- Expect the water to appear cloudy or have a slight taste - this is normal carbon fines from new filters that come post RO
- Allow the tank to refill completely after draining
- Drain a second tank for best initial water quality
When Is the Water Ready to Drink?
After draining two full tanks, your RO water is ready for use. The water should be clear and taste clean and refreshing.
Quick Reference Checklist
- Tank valve OFF
- Feed water ON - system pressurizes
- Leak check - all connections dry
- Tank valve ON - begin filling
- First tank - drain completely
- Second tank - drain for best quality
- Enjoy your purified water!
