What's the Startup Checklist for My Undersink System?

Follow these simple steps to get your new undersink water filter running safely and efficiently.

Before You Begin

Congratulations on your new Crystal Quest undersink system! Taking a few minutes to complete this startup checklist ensures optimal performance and helps prevent leaks or damage. Keep this guide handy for future filter changes.

Step 1: Verify All Connections

Feed Water Line

  • Confirm the cold water supply line is securely connected to the system inlet
  • Check that all fittings are hand-tightened plus one-quarter turn
  • Ensure tubing is fully inserted into quick-connect fittings

Dispenser Faucet

  • Verify the faucet is properly mounted and stable
  • Confirm the tubing from the system outlet connects securely to the faucet base

Drain Connection (If Applicable)

  • Check that the drain saddle is firmly attached to the drainpipe
  • Ensure the drain line has no kinks or sharp bends

Step 2: Set Valve Positions

  • Cold water supply valve: Turn to the OFF position before proceeding
  • System inlet valve (if equipped): Confirm it is in the CLOSED position
  • Dispenser faucet: Open the handle to the ON position

Step 3: Pressurize the System

  • Slowly open the cold water supply valve
  • Open the system inlet valve (if equipped)
  • Allow water to fill the system, you will hear air escaping from the open faucet
  • Wait until a steady stream of water flows from the dispenser faucet

Step 4: Flush the Filters

New filter cartridges contain loose carbon fines and preservatives that must be flushed before use.

  • Let water run through the open faucet for 5 to 10 minutes
  • The water may appear gray or cloudy initially - this is normal
  • Continue flushing until the water runs completely clear
  • Close the dispenser faucet

Step 5: Inspect for Leaks

Immediate Inspection

  • Visually check all connections for drips or moisture
  • Run your finger along each fitting to detect any wetness
  • Inspect the faucet base for pooling water

Follow-Up Inspection

  • Place a dry paper towel under the system
  • Check again after 30 minutes and after 24 hours
  • If any leaks are found, turn off the water supply and retighten the affected connection

Step 6: Final System Check

  • Open and close the dispenser faucet several times to confirm smooth operation
  • Verify water flow is steady and consistent
  • Note the installation date on your filter cartridges for future reference
  • Record your next filter replacement date based on Crystal Quest system recommendations
