What Should I Check Before Installing My Crystal Quest System?

A quick pre-installation checklist ensures smooth setup and prevents common issues down the road.

Verify Your Water Supply

Before unpacking your system, confirm a few essential details about your water source:

  • Water pressure: Most Crystal Quest systems operate best between 40-60 PSI. If you're unsure of your pressure, an inexpensive gauge from any hardware store can help you check.
  • Water source type: Know whether you have municipal (city) water or well water, as this affects filter selection and maintenance schedules.
  • Flow rate: Verify your household flow rate meets the minimum requirements listed in your system's specifications.
  • Power Source: Verify you have an adequate power source depending on the systems needs

Locate and Test Your Shutoff Valves

You'll need to turn off the water during installation. Take a moment to:

  • Find your main shutoff valve: Typically located near the water meter, in the basement, or where the main line enters your home.
  • Test that it works: Turn it off and confirm water stops flowing at a nearby faucet. Valves that haven't been used in years may be stuck or leak when operated.
  • Identify any secondary shutoffs: For under-sink or point-of-use systems, locate the shutoff valves directly under the sink.

Inspect Your Existing Plumbing

A brief inspection helps prevent surprises during installation:

Check Pipe Condition

Look for signs of corrosion, mineral buildup, or leaks at visible pipe connections. Address any existing issues before adding new equipment.

Confirm Pipe Size and Material

Most residential systems use 3/4" or 1" pipes. Note whether your pipes are copper, PEX, CPVC, or galvanized steel, as this determines which fittings you'll need.

Assess Connection Points

Identify where you plan to install the system and ensure there's adequate space and accessible connections. Measure the area to confirm your system will fit comfortably.

Gather Tools and Supplies

Having everything ready makes installation faster and easier:

  • Adjustable wrenches or pliers
  • Teflon tape (plumber's tape)
  • Bucket and towels for minor spills
  • Drill with appropriate bits (if wall mounting is required)
  • Any additional fittings specified in your installation guide
  • Automatic shut-off valve

Review Your Installation Guide

Before you begin, read through the complete installation instructions included with your system. Each Crystal Quest product has specific requirements, and familiarizing yourself with the steps ahead of time helps ensure a successful installation.
