What to Do When Your Subscribe and Save Payment Fails (and How to Update Your Payment Method)
A failed Subscribe and Save payment will not cancel you right away. Update your card to keep your Crystal Quest filter deliveries on schedule.
Customer question
"I got an email that my subscription payment failed. What do I do, and will my filters stop coming?"
Answer
Please do not worry. A failed payment does not cancel your subscription right away. The billing system automatically retries the charge over the next few days, so a single declined attempt does not interrupt your deliveries on its own.
The best thing you can do right now is update the payment method on file. Once a working card is saved, your filter deliveries stay on schedule and you avoid any further failed-payment notices. The steps below walk you through it, and there is a short security note so you know exactly how to do this safely.
Steps
- Do not worry about an immediate cancellation. A failed payment does not cancel your subscription on the spot. The system retries the charge, but updating your payment method now is what keeps your filter deliveries on schedule.
- Update your payment method through your subscription account. Log in to your Crystal Quest account, open your subscription or Subscribe and Save management area, and update the card on file - the portal can be found here.
- Check the common causes of a declined charge. The most frequent reasons a recurring charge fails are: the card expired, the bank reissued the card with a new number, the billing address on file changed, there were insufficient funds on the renewal date, or the bank flagged the recurring charge. Updating to a current card usually clears all of these.
- Let the new card take over. Once your card is updated, you can usually retry the charge from the portal, or the next scheduled retry will simply use your new card.
- If you received a "last billing attempt" or cancellation notice, update your card and contact our support team so we can re-activate the subscription before your next shipment.
- If you would rather pause, skip, or change frequency instead of updating the card, you can manage all of that in the same subscription area.
Safety / before you start
This is a billing topic, so a few quick safeguards before you begin:
- Have your Crystal Quest account login and your new card details ready before you start.
- Only update your payment information while logged in to your own Crystal Quest account. Do not enter card details into a link from an email you are unsure about.
- Crystal Quest will never ask you for your full card number, security code, or full bank details by email. If you receive a message asking for that, treat it as suspicious and do not reply. Update your payment only through your logged-in account.
- If anything about a payment email looks off, contact our support team directly rather than acting on the email.
