What Is SMART Media?
SMART media is Crystal Quest's proprietary multi-stage filtration blend, a carefully formulated combination to address a wide range of contaminants.
Rather than relying on a single filtration method, SMART media combines multiple proven technologies that work together synergistically for comprehensive water treatment.
What's Inside SMART Media?
Crystal Quest's signature house blend includes:
Premium Coconut Shell Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) Highly porous carbon that adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and chemicals that affect taste and odor.
Coconut Based Catalytic Carbon GAC A specialized form of activated carbon with enhanced surface properties, particularly effective at breaking down chloramines—the disinfectant many municipalities now use instead of chlorine.
Eagle Redox Alloy® 6500 A copper-zinc formulation that reduces chlorine, heavy metals like lead and mercury, and inhibits bacterial growth within the filter.
Eagle Redox Alloy® 9500 A copper-zinc formulation optimized for reducing iron, hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell), and controlling scale buildup.
Ion Exchange Resin Targets heavy metals and helps reduce hardness minerals through an ion exchange process.
White Ceramic Balls Manufactured from mineral-rich ceramic materials including calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, zirconium dioxide, and silicon dioxide. These ceramic balls provide multiple filtration benefits:
- Adsorbs heavy metals and impurities
- Antibacterial and disinfecting properties
- Removes unpleasant odors
- Anti-oxidant properties
- Increases pH to create more alkaline water
Tourmaline Ceramic Balls Tourmaline is a natural mineral with unique piezoelectric properties, it naturally generates a small positive charge. Crystal Quest tourmaline balls are formulated with hematite and contribute to water enhancement through:
- Emission of far-infrared rays and negative ions
- Supports a more alkaline pH balance
- Enhances the synergistic effects of the overall filtration media
Why Multi-Media Filtration?
Different contaminants require different filtration approaches. Chlorine responds well to carbon. Heavy metals need redox media, ion exchange, or ceramic adsorption. Hydrogen sulfide require ERA 9500 specifically. Odors are addressed by both carbon and ceramic media.
By combining these technologies, SMART media provides broader protection than single-media filtration. Each component contributes its strengths while complementing the others for overall water quality improvement.
Where Is SMART Media Used?
Crystal Quest uses SMART media across multiple product formats:
- SMART Cartridges – Pre-filled cartridges for undersink, countertop, pitchers, inline, and refrigerator systems. See [What Are SMART Cartridges?] for more details.
- Tank-Based Systems – Whole house and commercial systems with SMART media in refillable tanks.
- Loose/Bulk Media – Available for custom applications or tank refills.
